All this was typical of “the Jazz Age”， when many people lost belief in American dream and indulge themselves in drinking and dancing. And on Mondays eight servants, including an extra gardener, toiled all day with mops and scrubbing-brushes and hammers and garden-shears, repairing the ravages of the night before.

Gatsby’s generous parties had not brought him even one friend.
